fume-fire

By Nicholas Barnes

late night party

conversation

complete with

new faces

look at me

i’m making friends

here’s more talk

more records

more wax dripping

off that big messy

pillar candle

then she says

you guys are cool

let me get all of your

phone numbers

she gets one

then another then

she puts her cell away

without my digits in it

this is why i don't hang out

i always get burned

torch me i’m gasoline

your diesel engine

will just reject me

in the end
