COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
A little bit about us: Hearth & Coffin Literary Journal was founded in Houston in 2020, later relocating to New York City the following year. Founded with the explicit purpose of publishing new and upcoming writers with no submission fees, Hearth & Coffin places priority on provocative, exploratory, and accessible works that thrill and open the minds of readers. There is no magic formula to being published in Hearth & Coffin. No amount of pedigree will guarantee a spot. Good writing is good writing, regardless of your degree(s) or lack thereof, your previous publications, your skin color, gender, or age.

The Position
OVERVIEW:
- This position is volunteer-based, as Hearth & Coffin is volunteer-run.
- This position is remote and does not require in-person interface.
- This is not a full-time job, so please don't overexert yourself!
- We understand that we all have lives outside of the journal.
- There is a lot of free reign with this position, but it is collaborative. Barrett is available to you 24/7 via phone.
- If you happen to be located in NYC, Barrett is available for in-person meetings. You pick the coffee shop!
- The Hearth & Coffin editors are a busy but laid-back staff.
- A weekly meeting (via Zoom or in-person, at the mercy of our schedules) and open-door policy will keep us up-to-date.
DUTIES:
Social Media:
- We are looking for someone who understands social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
- Honestly, Twitter's probably the most important. But the others are a plus.
- Experience with Canva (or another similar service) is a plus, but not necessary. We use Canva to create visual posts for Instagram (and Facebook, to an extent).
- A Facebook account will be required so that you can be made an admin in order to schedule posts for Facebook and Instagram.
Communiqué:
- Communiqué is Hearth & Coffin's once-monthly newsletter. It is three bullet points and one ~250 word blurb.
- A creative writing background would be swell, but isn't necessary.
Press Releases:
- We will collaboratively write one press release per issue of Hearth & Coffin, announcing the upcoming issue's publication.
- Additional press releases are very rare, but may become necessary should a circumstance call for it.

ARE YOU INTERESTED?
Please email your resume to editor@hearthandcoffin.com. In the body of your email, please include a ~250-word blurb about yourself and why you'd like to volunteer with Hearth & Coffin.

Your resume doesn't have to be extravagant, we just want to see what you've done!
