Ouroboros

By D.W. Baker

The great snake

of cycles

suffers

an affliction

of leprosy.

The tail of

the past

that used to melt

so sweetly on

the tongue

now has grown tough

plastic scales

slicked by the unforgiving

darkness of

excavated oil.
